Distance between the predicted position at t = 30 with the Boris method and the GCA for the magnetic null case. The distance is shown as a function of the particles’ initial ϕ angle on the circle ﹩{x}^{2}+{y}^{2}=1﹩. Particles close to the diagonals (at ﹩\phi \approx \pi /4,3\pi /4,5\pi /4,7\pi /4﹩) move toward the magnetic null, where the GCA breaks down.
