A bird’s eye comparison between the Taurus molecular cloud complex as analyzed in Dharmawardena et al. (2023; orange) and in this work (blue), based on the 3D dust map from Leike et al. (2020). Both 3D dust cutouts have been integrated over the same range in z. Dharmawardena et al. (2023) find roughly an order of magnitude higher cloud masses across their sample of 16 local clouds compared to this work, likely due to the presence of cloud substructure at farther distances along the line of sight, which is largely not detected in Leike et al. (2020).
