Surface brightness profile of NGC 7793. Inner disk data (full squares) are surface brightness measurements from Carignan (1985). Empty circles (squares) are effective surface brightness measurements in the g′ ( i′) band, derived from star counts and corrected for background galaxy contamination. Error bars reflect uncertainties in galaxy number counts. Due to different relative depths and completeness, data had to be shifted by different amounts to match the Carignan (1985) measurements; see the text for details. Resolved stellar counts reach more than 4 mag arcsec −2 deeper than surface photometry and significantly increase the known extent of NGC 7793.
