Mass ratios as function of total mass (MA+MB) for ejected brown dwarf and VLM binaries. This distribution is a natural consequence of the fact that there are no bodies with masses less than 0.012 in the simulations: for a binary mass of 0.024, the two smallest bodies are 0.012 and 0.012, i.e., a mass ratio of 1. A similar, although less pronounced, effect comes from the fact that the IMF is rising to a peak around 0.04, after which it declines.
