R‐band magnitude distribution of the selected (primary) optical counterparts of the X‐ray sources in our survey (solid line). For comparison, we also show (dotted line) the expected distribution of random field galaxies normalized to the total area of the error circles of our X‐ray sources, based on galaxy number count measurements (Metcalfe et al. 2001; Jones et al. 1991).
