Reconstructed sky path of comet C/770 K1 from Ek’ Balam between 770 April 7 and May 26 using the orbital solution of I. Hasegawa (1979). Left: selected positions in the northeastern morning sky before sunrise. Right: selected positions in the northwestern evening sky after sunset. The cometary heads mark the reconstructed orbital positions. The tail lengths are illustrative. Labels give the approximate altitudes shown for each date. The orange curves trace the change in sunrise and sunset azimuth across the 49 days interval. The May 26 morning marker corresponds to an altitude of about 8–9 at 05:00 local solar time. Sunrise occurs near 05:16, when the cometary head reaches ﹩11\mathop{.}\limits^{^\circ }5﹩. Chinese records dated May 26 give a tail length of three to five zhang, conventionally about 30–50. The horizon depicts the low-relief landscape of northern Yucatán.
