We resampled the original mass distribution of RGB stars (light pink curve) to create new mass distributions of N = 4 small-sized subsamples (purple curves). The dashed lines represent the peaks of each distribution. After 100,000 random realizations, the purple peak values were used to characterize the uncertainty in the average EAGB mass introduced by small number statistics. This is an example of 16 random realizations. See Appendix D for more details.
