Three quantities of particular interest are plotted as a function of data volume ﹩{ \mathcal V }﹩. First is the log of the optimum mass ratio ζ that minimizes the data latency TL. A plot of TL vs. ﹩{ \mathcal V }﹩ for this optimum ζ is shown in Figure 6. Second is the transmission time component of TL, which varies in the range of 2−9 yr. Third is the distance increase (D1/D0 − 1) expressed as a percentage. The space probe travels a fairly consistent 9%–10% farther than the target star during downlink transmission.
