gJKs color-color plot showing spectroscopically classified objects from SDSS DR9 with ﹩{K}_{{\rm{s}}}\lt 21﹩ mag, where we separate out the very high-redshift (﹩z\gt 5﹩) QSOs. For clarity we show no more than 1000 of each type of object. This illustrates how intermediate- and high-redshift QSOs can be selected using a combination of SDSS optical and VICS82 near-infrared photometry, with extragalactic point sources cleanly separated from the stellar locus.
