PFSS extrapolations for (a) a dipolar field ﹩{B}_{r}({r}_{0})\sim {\cos }^{7}\theta ,﹩ (b) a localized BMR (defined in the Appendix), and (c) a superposition of the two (with 0° BMR tilt). The peak field strength of the BMR is ﹩50\,{\rm{G}}﹩ compared to ﹩5\,{\rm{G}}﹩ for the dipolar field. Selected magnetic field lines are colored blue/red by ﹩{ \mathcal A }| {B}_{r}| ﹩ (in units of ﹩{10}^{22}\,{\mathrm{Mx}}^{2}\,{\mathrm{cm}}^{-2}﹩ and using the larger of the two endpoint ﹩| {B}_{r}| ﹩ values). Panel (c) is the top left (tilt 0°) case in Figure 2.
