Complex rotation of the nucleus, described by three Euler angles. The orange arrow represents the direction of the rotational angular momentum vector ﹩{\boldsymbol{M}}﹩. Angle ϕ corresponds to the rotation about ﹩{\boldsymbol{M}}﹩. The green arrow points along the long axis of the nucleus out of the smaller lobe. A rolling motion about the long axis is indicated by Ψ. Angle θ is the angle between ﹩{\boldsymbol{M}}﹩ and a fixed axis on the rigid body and does not undergo circular motion for LAM, but instead displays a “nodding” behavior from nutation.
